The United States has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Lebanon involving a fleet of Oshkosh Defense Medium Tactical Vehicles, in a package valued at up to 90.5 million US dollars.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has issued the formal notification to Congress, outlining Lebanon’s request for M1085A2 five-ton and M1078A2 2.5-ton MTVs, both produced by Oshkosh Defense. The proposed procurement also includes spare parts, technical manuals, personnel training, and logistical and technical support.
If finalised, the deal would significantly enhance Lebanon’s tactical mobility. The Lebanese Armed Forces have sought modernised transport and support platforms capable of responding quickly to perimeter threats and counter-terrorism incidents. The Oshkosh MTV series, widely used by US and allied militaries, provides improved off-road performance, reliability and payload capacity compared with the country’s legacy fleet.
US officials say the sale aligns with Washington’s foreign policy objectives, strengthening a partner nation viewed as an important stabilising force in the region.
Oshkosh Defense, based in Wisconsin, is designated as the principal contractor for the programme. No offset agreements have been proposed at this stage, although any such arrangements would be negotiated directly between the company and the Lebanese Government.
The sale requires no additional deployment of US personnel to Lebanon.
