Elbit Systems of America has been awarded a $49.9 million contract by the US Army to supply heads-up displays (HUDs) for the UH-60 Black Hawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopter fleets.
The company’s colour Air Warrior HUD projects key flight and mission information directly into the aircrew’s field of view. By displaying critical data within the line of sight, the system allows personnel to maintain focus outside the aircraft rather than looking down at cockpit instruments.
The HUD forms part of the US Army’s Air Soldier System programme, which is designed to improve situational awareness and survivability for rotorcraft crews through a suite of lightweight integrated equipment.
The programme is being introduced as a replacement for the earlier Air Warrior system, which entered service in 2004 and relied on heavier equipment.
The contract will run through to December 2030 and also covers post-production support.
Scott Tumpak Comments:
Scott Tumpak, Senior Vice President of Electronic Systems at Elbit America, said the company has remained focused on advancing situational awareness through display technology that helps users better interpret conditions beyond the aircraft or vehicle.
Luke Savoie Comments:
Luke Savoie, President and CEO of Elbit America, added that in demanding operational environments, reliable visual information is critical, and described the company’s combat-proven HUDs as providing aircrews with the clarity needed to respond quickly and effectively.
