Singapore Opening Marks Milestone in EOS Laser Programme

Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has formally opened a new high energy laser weapon facility in Singapore, establishing a regional hub for the manufacture, integration and testing of 100 kW class laser systems for regional and international customers.

The site, inaugurated on 6 February 2026, represents a significant step in EOS’ global expansion strategy and its long term commitment to Singapore’s defence science and technology ecosystem. More than 100 guests attended the opening ceremony, including defence representatives, Austrade officials, business leaders and investors. The event included a tour of the innovation centre and a controlled demonstration inside the facility’s test tunnel.

Key Moment

Dr Andreas Schwer, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of EOS, described the opening as a key moment for the company.

“This site is a very important step forward for us as it expands on our capability to build, integrate, test and sustain systems closer to our customers and partners,” he said. “It is a blueprint for further facilities we will build as part of our localisation and transfer of technology plans in the countries of our clients.”

The facility is designed to support system integration, development, demonstration and sustainment activity, expanding EOS’ capacity to deliver at scale and respond more rapidly to regional requirements. It will directly support a growing pipeline of international high energy laser contracts.

In August 2025, EOS secured what it described as the world’s first export order for a 100 kW class high energy laser weapon system, awarded by the Netherlands. Brigadier General Marc van Ockenburg of the Royal Netherlands Army said the contract reflected a longstanding partnership.

“We firmly believe that high energy lasers will form an indispensable new category of weapon systems with significant operational potential and important logistical advantages,” he said. “We are delighted to be your launching customer.”

Production Support

The Singapore facility is also expected to support production linked to a binding conditional agreement in the Republic of Korea for a further 100 kW class system and a local partnership arrangement. “This contract will be produced out of this facility in Singapore,” Dr Schwer confirmed.

The opening marks EOS’ transition from research and development into production ready capability. “Building this capability in such a short time has been a formidable undertaking,” Dr Schwer said.

As armed forces confront increasingly sophisticated drone threats, EOS’ Apollo system is designed for integration into layered air defence architectures. “Apollo is a mobile, rapidly deployable system designed to operate from a truck mounted platform,” Dr Schwer said. “It is designed to neutralise group one, two and three unmanned aerial systems.”

With signed contracts in Europe and Asia and engagement ongoing elsewhere, EOS expects demand for high energy laser systems to continue rising.
