The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has established five framework contracts for tactical and deployable Counter-Unmanned Aircfraft Systems (C-UAS), offering NATO Allies and partner nations a faster, simpler route to acquire a proven defensive capability.
The threat landscape
Small and tactical drones pose a persistent threat to deployed forces, critical infrastructure and civilian populations. The contracts focus on flexible, off-the-shelf solutions built around a common Command and Control (C2) backbone. This backbone integrates modular sensing and effector subsystems including Radar, Direction Finding, Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) and Acoustic sensors; Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) effectors; and the option to integrate hard-kill interceptor capabilities.
Combined under a unified C2 layer, these modules enable operators to detect, identify, and respond to drone threats as one coherent system, scalable for fixed-site defence, forward operating bases, or mobile applications.
The contracts
Pre-selecting five contractors with pre-qualified, proven solutions (Axon, BSS, DEFSECINTEL, JISR, and CS Group France) allows NSPA to deliver responsiveness, supply redundancy, and potential shared through-life support; capabilities which are rarely achieved through individual procurement efforts.
The Agency will continue to expand this catalogue to cover larger requirement sets as the threat evolves, ensuring current, proven solutions remain accessible through a single familiar route and that NATO forces remain equipped with capabilities aligned with emerging operational needs.
