The CaMo (Capacité Motorisée) programme has reached a further milestone following an order for 269 additional vehicles, expanding Belgium’s SCORPION fleet and bringing Luxembourg formally into the user community.
The French General Directorate for Armament placed an order with KNDS France on behalf of the Belgian Ministry of Defence for 92 additional Griffon armoured vehicles and 123 Serval vehicles. The contract marks Belgium’s first acquisition of the Serval, completing its access to the full SCORPION vehicle family alongside the Griffon and Jaguar.
Reinforcing the Fleet
Belgium’s expanded fleet is intended to reinforce interoperability with France and other SCORPION users, while supporting its NATO capability commitments. The Serval order represents a significant step in broadening Belgium’s medium weight motorised capacity under the CaMo framework.
Luxembourg is joining the programme through the Belgian procurement channel. Under the NATO Defence Planning Process, the Luxembourg Guide Chasseurs Battalion will receive 38 Jaguar reconnaissance and combat vehicles and 16 Griffon vehicles. This move adds Luxembourg to the group of SCORPION operators and is designed to strengthen collective European capability in a deteriorating security environment.
Cross Collaboration
Industrial cooperation between France and Belgium is also being reinforced. Most vehicles will be assembled in Belgium at the MOL CY facility and fitted with remote weapon stations supplied by FN Herstal. The Serval fleet will benefit from an expanded industrial scheme, with a greater proportion of assembly work transferred to Belgium than under previous Griffon and Mounted Mortar for Close Support (MEPAC) production. A dedicated spare parts supply flow will support in service availability as newly equipped units enter operational service.
