World Defense Show Concludes with Record Engagement and Deals

The third edition of the World Defense Show (WDS), held in Riyadh from 8 to 12 February, concluded last week as a major milestone for the global defence industry. The five-day event drew unprecedented international participation, robust business activity and reinforced Riyadh’s role as a strategic hub for defence cooperation and industrial growth under Saudi Vision 2030.

Organised by the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) under the patronage of Saudi leadership, the flagship exhibition hosted 1,486 exhibitors from 89 countries on a purpose-built site that spanned more than 273,000 square metres. Official figures released at the closing media briefing put visitor numbers at approximately 137,000, a significant increase on previous editions and reflecting broad international interest.

The scale and scope of WDS 2026 underscored its growth trajectory since its inception in 2022. The show’s footprint expanded year-on-year with dedicated zones covering naval platforms, unmanned systems, space domain, artificial intelligence and technology integration, as well as a Saudi Supply Chain Zone designed to showcase local industry capabilities.

Commercial Outcomes

Deal-making was a central theme of this year’s event. Official sources reported more than 60 military and defence contracts signed, with a cumulative value of SAR 33 billion (around USD 8.8 billion). These agreements spanned procurement, industrial cooperation and technology partnerships, highlighting both global demand for advanced systems and Saudi Arabia’s efforts to localise defence production.

Exhibitors and delegations emphasised the quality of business interactions across the show floor. Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) utilised the platform to unveil new entities and expand cooperation with international partners, while multiple nations presented cutting-edge equipment and capabilities, from combat aircraft to unmanned systems.Defence Industry

Industry Insight and Strategic Dialogue

WDS 2026 featured hundreds of live demonstrations and static displays, providing visitors with direct insight into emerging technologies and operational concepts. The programme included thought leadership sessions and strategic dialogues aimed at shaping future industry collaboration and addressing shared security challenges.

Senior figures from defence ministries and industry noted the show’s growing influence as a forum for forging long-term partnerships and accelerating innovation. The level of international confidence reflected in attendance and deal flow positions the World Defense Show as a key event in the global defence calendar, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to increase localisation of military expenditure to 50% by 2030.

Preparations for the next edition are already underway, with organisers indicating an intent to further enhance exhibition space and facilitate even deeper engagement between governments and defence suppliers.
