Magirus establishes Defense & Security as a new business unit

Protecting first responders and the public requires technology that performs reliably under the most extreme conditions. Magirus is establishing Defense & Security as an independent strategic business unit within the Magirus Group. This step positions the company in a market segment that is gaining significant importance in light of the current geopolitical environment. Strengthening industrial capabilities and protection across Europe is becoming increasingly critical.

Consistent integration: realising synergies, preserving identity

The integration of the Radfeld site in Austria, which originated from the acquisition of Achleitner Fahrzeugbau GmbH, is progressing at full speed. The company’s operational processes are being transferred into the structures of the Magirus Group. The rebranding of the Radfeld site into the Magirus Group is scheduled to be completed in April 2026. However, a merger of the legal entities is deliberately not envisaged: the focus is on the targeted realisation of synergies while fully preserving the established identity, experience and core competencies at the Radfeld site.

As part of the reorganisation, former Managing Director Ewald Gattermayr has left the company. “I would like to thank Ewald Gattermayr for his work and his contribution to the development of the company, and wish him all the best for his professional future,” says Fatmir Veselaj, CEO of the Magirus Group. “With the integration of the Tyrolean site, we are consistently delivering on what we set out to do. The combination of specialised expertise and the strength of our Group creates a symbiosis that positions us excellently in the Defense & Security segment.”

Future market Defense & Security: specialised technology for the highest demands

This business segment offers significant growth potential. Magirus Defense develops and manufactures specialised vehicle solutions for armed forces, security authorities and operators of critical infrastructure, as well as highly specialised vehicles for deployment in demanding terrain. Technology that is of equal importance for civil protection as it is for governmental security operations. A field of expertise that not only represents a logical extension of the Magirus portfolio, but also offers significant commercial growth potential.

To unlock this potential consistently, targeted investments to scale production capacities at the Radfeld site are planned. The site is not only to be preserved, but strengthened as a central pillar of the Magirus Group in the Defense & Security business segment.

Protection as a mission: with a clear strategy and a strong foundation

With the establishment of Magirus Defense & Security, the Magirus Group is consistently expanding its scope beyond fire and disaster control. The commitment remains the same that has driven the company for over 160 years: to develop and build technology that protects people – the public as well as those who take on responsibility in the line of duty every day. With Defense & Security as a new strategic business segment, Magirus is well positioned for the challenges ahead.
