The HMG Paints Defence Coatings team will be showcasing their latest innovations in coatings resilience and technical application at DVD 2026.

In an ever-increasing volatile world HMG Paints is doubling down on UK Defence Supply Chain Resilience by innovating with new products. 2026 has seen the expansion of its IRR and CARC coatings range which is now available in Federal Standard 383, a flat camouflage olive green extensively used by the U.S. military and NATO for vehicles and equipment.
The company has also developed a range of Advanced Fire-Retardant Coatings and initial trials and testing has proved successful in several applications and markets. The AFRC range utilises technology which is water-based, eco-friendly and is PFAS free, fluorine free, non-carcinogenic, and non-toxic to humans, pets, and the environment.
HMG has also developed the solution so it is compatible with many of its existing products and can be incorporated across several defence standards and coating systems. The coatings can be used on vehicles, equipment, infrastructure and practically any substrate which can be coated.
Rigorous testing is now underway with a number of principal partners for approvals across key European and British standards, including BS EN 13823, BS EN ISO 11925-2, EN 13501-1, BS EN 15725 / EN/TS 15117, and EN ISO 9239-1.

Innovation to Preservation
Along with innovating with modern coatings the business is also utilising its experience and extensive portfolio to help preserve some of the world’s most iconic aircraft.
HMG Paints has extended its partnership with the AVRO Heritage Museum, located on the former Woodford Aerodrome near Stockport in Cheshire. Working with HMG Paints the volunteer team repainted Avro Vulcan XM603 in its original anti-flash white paint so it looks exactly as it would have done when it rolled out of the Woodford Flight Sheds in 1963.

By leveraging its Manchester-based manufacturing headquarters HMG is providing the UK defence market with speed of supply and technical support. HMG maintains deep stocks of key products, including the Def Stan 80-225 system and IRR and CARC resistant coatings utilised on many defence assets.
