Creating Safe Working Environments

Defence projects often come with challenging environments, RVT Group presents their turnkey offering to meet your needs

RVT Group is a UK based specialist hire company known for its consultative approach to environmental challenges within the Defence sector. Across naval dockyards, aircraft hangars and Ministry of Defence land sites, we help contractors and site teams manage hazards associated with short-term reactive work, and long-term projects running over several months.

The defence sector is fast paced, and when carrying out maintenance, refurbishment or renovation projects, normal operations within the facility will often continue alongside, presenting a significant health and safety challenge to manage. In these conditions, ineffective controls can lead to productivity loss, missed project milestones and environmental or asset damage – undermining the agility that defence projects demand.

Across the UK, the US and Australia, RVT Group supports the defence sector with specialist engineering controls that safeguard the contractor’s workforce and surrounding personnel, as well as the environment. We work with you to ensure productivity is kept high and downtime remains low. Depending on the nature of the work being carried out, this may involve controlling welding fumes during ship repairs, extracting dust during abrasive blasting or flooring repair within an aircraft hangar, or using ventilation to maintain a safe airflow within a confined space on an MoD land site.

In recent years, RVT Group has supported during the construction of a type 26 warship, where an effective, compliant climate control solution was installed to maintain suitable conditions for paint drying and curing within hundreds of compartments to enable a first in class ship to meet a critical milestone in its journey to completion, making way for the next ship in class to take its place in dry-dock. We also helped protect workers’ health from welding fumes and grinding dust during a major amphibious assault ship refurbishment, and during flooring repairs within an aircraft hangar museum, we installed a dust control solution to capture, contain and control hazardous dust, protecting the aircrafts from any damage. These projects all required close co-ordination with contractors, and strict adherence to site procedures. Our solutions ensured project teams were able to progress safely, with minimal downtime needed.

Our service is different from your average hire or rental company, we provide a tailored approach to every client, ensuring you receive the best solution for your challenge. Our experience means we have a curated turnkey service suited to the defence sector, this includes design and consultation for the solution we recommend, training for your staff, installation at the start of your hire, and dismantling when complete, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance if required. Should your need be urgent, our deployability means we can have solutions on-site as soon as the next day.”

The demand for our services is on the rise. Contractors are increasingly recognising the importance of integrating environmental controls into project planning from the outset, rather than treating them as a reactive measure. As a result of this, RVT Group now embeds static teams across dockyards in the UK, providing rapid on-site support for both planned and reactive works – helping to sustain capability of the nation’s defence infrastructure. We also have a dedicated defence team in Virginia Beach, US, and Australia.
